Millennials are lazy, entitled, consumed by technology, narcissistic, shallow in their social connections, and just don’t care. Or maybe people aren’t looking in the right places, like social media, crowdfunding sites, and the good deeds being done online...
“We can’t escape the headlines about how technology continues to pull us apart, and how Millennials, the first digital native generation, are in the driver’s seat.” says Zach Firestone, cofounder of Welzoo—an online charity driving service that partnered with Column Five to create the above video. "Yet the counterargument seems fairly easy, because when you look around, you see young people doing amazing things to improve our world every day.”
The truth is Millennials are mobilizing for change in new, high-tech ways, and data continually shows that Millennials prefer social good over personal profit. In fact, according to Bentley University, 84% of Millennials say that knowing they’re making a positive difference in the world is more important than any professional recognition.
“The Millennial Rebuttal isn’t just a story about Millennials—it’s about the impact all generations can have,” Firestone says. “This is a story about why people are awesome. Things have changed, sure, but people haven’t."
